His oldest sister, Lulu, is appalled, however, and she spends the ensuing months cringing at the manny's interactions and documenting his "transgressions" in a document known as "The Manny Files." Over the course of the next several months, Keats weathers the death of his beloved grandmother, tries to find an identity at school apart from just being Lulu's little brother, withstands constant needling by an unpleasant classmate, and, most of all, hopes fervently that Lulu fails at her attempt to get the manny fired. When the Dalinger family, with its obstreperous four kids, gets a new nanny who calls himself "the manny," third-grader and narrator Keats is thrilled with the charismatic and exuberant new figure in his life. ![]() ![]() ![]() Includes bibliographical references (page 318) ![]() He applies his ideas to problems of discipline, criticism, anger, motivation, homework, praise, cooperation, and the conflicting relationships of students, teachers, administrators and parents. ![]() The author suggests concepts, attitudes and a language of acceptance and compassion to improve daily situations and psychological problems faced by teachers. ![]() ![]() Angus Sampson as Cisco, Mickey's friend and go-to investigator and Lorna's fiancé.Jazz Raycole as Izzy Letts, a former addict & client of Mickey, now working as his personal driver.Becki Newton as Lorna Crane, Mickey's second ex-wife and his legal aide. ![]() ![]() Neve Campbell as Maggie McPherson (main: season 1 recurring: season 2), Mickey's first wife and a criminal prosecutor.Adan James Carillo as young Mickey Haller.Manuel Garcia-Rulfo as Mickey Haller, a criminal-defense lawyer and recovering addict.Manuel Garcia-Rulfo (left) and Neve Campbell (right) portray Mickey Haller and Maggie McPherson, respectively Lawyer Mickey Haller works in the back of his Lincoln Navigator as he takes on cases in Los Angeles. Personally, I would’ve preferred realistic illustrations. The inclusion of humans interacting with dinosaurs may lead to more confusion for children interested in archaeology. It has dinosaurs in a bed with a blanket and headboard, wearing a bib, and reading the sports page. The illustrations push the book more toward the entertainment type. The end of the book has a helpful two-page spread of the dinosaur timeline. ![]() A child would read this book more for the entertainment value than for research. However, I did find the rhyming lines distracted from my understanding of the information. Though at time the writing lacks fluidity and the structure is not entirely cohesive, younger readers will likely find the story humorous while some older readers will delight in the nostalgia of reliving the 1970s. Cookies & Milk is a fun historical fiction based on the author’s experiences growing up with the founder of the Famous Amos cookies. ![]() ![]() ![]() In a tyrannical government, the ruler becomes corrupt and uses his power to further his own interests instead of working for the common good.
